Our New Membership Category: Priority

February 13, 2014 in Memberships, News by JennAK

Those of you who attended last year’s Chicago TARDIS may have noted the huge gap in seating we had in Main Programming. The first row was generally filled with our All-Access Members… and rows past 7 were jammed packed with our general admission members. In between? The gap that was Reserved seating. Realizing that most people bought Reserved to get priority in our autograph and photograph lines, we decided to create a new category of membership.

Our Priority Membership is a weekend membership with 3rd highest priority in lines, early access to online autograph/photograph session sales, and early access to the dealers room on Friday morning. Seating in Main Programming for this membership will be with the general admission memberships (i.e. row 6 and higher, not reserved).

We have reduced the number of Reserved memberships– siphoning them off to Priority– in the hopes of creating less of a gap between the stage and the audience. Those members who like the perk of having a seat reserved in their name will still be able to have the seat saved for them… and those members who don’t care where they sit as long as they can get priority in lines can now be better accommodated.

Full details on our 2014 Membership categories– including pricing– can be found on our Registration page. 2014 memberships go on sale Friday, February 14 at noon (CST).

2013 Photo Session Galleries Now Available

January 6, 2014 in News, Website by JennAK

We appreciate your patience in waiting for your jpgs. We do everything in-house here at Chicago TARDIS– from taking the photos to printing them and, now, uploading them for your use. The holidays, along with adapting new plug-ins etc., delayed delivery. (Now that we have the system in place, we won’t have this problem again!)

Those of you who bought tickets in advance though our online system will be receiving an email sometime this week with the password. (We can’t be more specific, because a) we have to send the emails manually and b) we don’t know yet how many we can send in a given time period before our ISP gets annoyed with us “spamming” people.) If you don’t get an email by Friday, January 10th, or if you registered via paper/phone/at the door, use the form below to request the password.

You can access the photo galleries via this link, or through the main menu under Autographs/Photographs.

Why are we doing the password thing? And why are we making you jump through a hoop to get it, if you didn’t register online? Not everyone is comfortable with having their photo online for the entire Internet to see. Plus, a number of photos have children in them, and we want to make sure to keep children’s photos as secure as possible.

Password Request Form

Please provide the following information to get the photo password. Also please allow 48 hours for the password to show up in your in-box-- we're sending out passwords manually so it will take some time.

* indicates required field
What type of membership did you have? (i.e. Weekend, Reserved, Friday-Only, etc.)
What (or whose) picture was on your badge?

Answer one of the following three questions correctly.

How many guests came on stage during Opening Ceremonies on Friday night?

Who hosted the Masquerade on Saturday night?
Who or what could you pose for photos with in the Virtual Queue Waiting Room (Lilac B-D)?

Thank You For A Brilliant Weekend!

December 6, 2013 in News, Programming by JennAK

Chicago TARDIS 2013 succeeded in part because of your help– plus the generosity of our guests and the fortitude of our staff. This post will be expanded with further comments on Monday, December 9th– but we wanted to get the thanks out there NOW.

(We are also grateful for your patience and understanding regarding the photograph/autograph lines. We found out the hard way that although our system worked for 1200 attendees, it failed miserably for 2700. We will be fixing things for 2014, guaranteed.)

Important Saturday Photo Op Schedule Change

November 29, 2013 in Programming by JennAK

We have had to re-arrange our photo session slightly for Saturday, November 30. The Freema Agyeman photo session, orgininally scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will now take place from noon to 2 p.m. The Paul McGann/Daphne Ashbrook photo session orginally scheduled for 1-2 p.m., will now take  place from 11 a.m. to noon. Sorry for the confusion! We will be posting signs whereever we can onsite about the change.

Final Version of Schedule Online

November 25, 2013 in Programming by JennAK

We have updated the Programming page with the version of the schedule that went to the printer– so you now have a preview of what you will pick up at registration. If you save the jpgs to your phone/tablet, you won’t have to worry about where the paper copy of the schedule got to over the weekend. If you’re wondering about a text-only online version, we will provide the link to it as soon as it has been updated to reflect the final version of the schedule.

Can you believe it? Chicago TARDIS is this weekend! We want to share with you some last minute news and details that will make your weekend more enjoyable.

Guest Update

Unfortunately, neither Nicholas Briggs nor Paul Vanezis will be able to join us this weekend. We will miss them both!

Autograph Pricing Adjustments

Autographs from our Doctors– Colin Baker, Peter Davison, and Paul McGann– will be $25/signature, not the $20/signature previously advertised. Also, there will be a nominal charge for Tracey Childs to sign non-Big Finish items.

Registration Hours

Our registration booth will be open for badge-picking up on Thursday night for our All-Access, Reserved, and 3-Day General Admission members. Friday and 3-Day At-the-door tickets will be available on Friday morning; Sunday tickets will be available on Sunday morning. No tickets will be sold on Saturday– we are sold out for that day.

The complete schedule is:

Thursday: 6-9 p.m.

Friday: 8 a.m.- 6 p.m.

Saturday: 8 a.m. -6 p.m.

Sunday: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

At-Door Ticket Availability

At-the-door ticket availability is still being determined; we plan on posting further information on Wednesday.

Social Media Options

Whether you will be at the con this weekend or just living vicariously through your friends’ posts, we will have you covered. As in previous years, we will be posting large amounts of photos to our Facebook page, as well as schedule changes, the odd quip from our guests onstage,  and other news. On Twitter, you’ll find schedule reminders, quips, and news updates. For the first time, we will be posting the photos and quotes we like best to our Tumblr account.

Food Options at Chicago TARDIS

The food court at Yorktown mall is closed– undergoing remodeling. Don’t despair, though– the Chicago TARDIS Program Book will list all your nearest food options for the weekend.

We look forward to seeing you all this weekend!

Pre-sales Have Ended

November 15, 2013 in Memberships by JennAK

If you don’t have a ticket yet, don’t despair, just get to the convention early on Friday. We will have a limited quantity of 3-Day and Friday-only admissions available for purchase at the door on Friday, and a limited quantity of Sunday-only tickets available on Sunday. Saturday-only tickets have already sold out and none will be available at the door.

Thanks, everyone, for your support. See you in two weeks!

Guest Update

November 14, 2013 in Guests by JennAK

We have good news and bad news about our guest line-up for this year’s Chicago TARDIS. Let’s start with the bad, shall we? Due to professional commitments, neither Richard Dinnick nor Arnold T. Blumberg will be able to join us Thanksgiving weekend. We will miss them both!

Now the good: we’ve added a number of people to our guest line-up. We welcome back Amy Pemberton, best known to Doctor Who fans as Big Finish’s 7th Doctor companion Sally Morgan. Also returning, novelists Jonathan Blum and Kate Orman. Jon and Kate wrote such classic novels as Vampire Science and The Seeing I.

We also have two gentlemen joining us for the first time. Ed Stradling has produced a large number of featurettes found on Doctor Who DVDs. Paul Vanezis has worked on the DVDs as well… and in his spare time, searches for missing episodes. We’re excited to welcome them both, and look forward to their insights.

Cosplaying At CT

November 6, 2013 in Programming by JennAK

How much do we love cosplayers at Chicago TARDIS? Let us count the ways!

  1. We feature the best hall costumes throughout the weekend as part of our official Facebook feed. Be in the right place at the right time and be immortalized online.
  2. Theme Days! We reward cosplayers (and fans who have items that fit the theme) with a special custom-designed button commemorating the day’s theme. For this year’s convention, our themes are:
    • Friday: Decorative Vegetable Day
    • Saturday: Technicolor Dreamcoat Day
    • Sunday: Victorian Gentleman Day
  3. The Chronological Cavalcade! New to Chicago TARDIS this year, this Friday evening costume parade gives you a chance to show off your work on the main stage without having to compete for prizes. We want as many different Doctors, companions, and baddies as possible to participate. Get more information (and a sign-up link) on our Evening Programming page.
  4. The Chicago TARDIS Masquerade! The highlight of our Saturday evening entertainment, the Masquerade features the best in costuming competing for prizes and glory. If you’re interested in entering, be sure to read the rules. If you just want to watch, we’ll see you in Main Programming at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

p.s. for those of you looking to perform a sketch, a song, a monologue– in costume or not– you will want to check out our Friday Open Mic event. Full details can be found on our Evening Programming page.

Membership Update

October 25, 2013 in Memberships by JennAK

We have good news and bad news about obtaining memberships at the door for this year’s Chicago TARDIS.

First, the good news: the current pricing ($85/weekend, $40 Fri or Sun, $50 Sat) has been extended through November 15th. You now have an extra two weeks in which to purchase your memberships before the at-door pricing kicks in.

Now, the bad news– and it’s in two parts.

Part one: online ticket sales will cease at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 15th. After that time, you will have to purchase your membership at the door, no exceptions.

Part two: We are sold out of Saturday-only memberships. No Saturday-only memberships will be available at the door. If you want to attend on just Saturday, and have yet to buy a membership,  you have to buy a 3-day membership. In addition, we anticipate selling out our 3-day memberships on Friday morning of the convention, if not before, so if you want to make sure you actually get in for the full weekend, buy your membership in advance.

We still have a quantity of 3-day memberships, but we expect the three-day tickets to start moving faster once Saturday-only is sold out. Don’t be left out! Get your membership now!
