Food, glorious food! Hot sausage and mustard….

(Sorry. We forgot that we’re not an Oliver! Convention for a moment.)

Sunday morning brunch… your chance to have a delightful buffet-style meal while getting to chat amiably with your fellow attendees and many of the convention guests. A separate-admission event (that requires convention membership to attend), the brunch runs from 10 a.m. – noon Sunday in the Lilac Room. Tickets are still available, but are going fast—just $55. Don’t miss out!

Focus: Game Shows

October 16, 2014 in News, Programming by JennAK

We love our game shows at Chicago TARDIS! This year, we will be bringing you three different ones—all open for participation from the audience!

On Friday night, we present the first installment of Kamelion’s Circus. This fun new game will get the whole audience involved. You don’t need to be a Doctor Who knowledge expert at all, all you have to do is have an active imagination! This game will involve asking the participants to do something creative on the fly – it might be to recite a made-up poem about River Song, or to invent a new monster, or to draw a new Doctor Who logo, or create the next Dalek plotline, or… well, Who knows? Audience response will be measured by applause level, and a panel of judges, also randomly selected from the audience, will give extra points on most entertaining response. Gift certificates will be awarded as prizes. Read the rest of this entry →

Focus: The Chicago TARDIS Masquerade

October 15, 2014 in News, Programming by JennAK

The Chicago TARDIS Masquerade showcases the best in fan cosplay and costuming. Be prepared to be amazed at the fantastic costumes you will see on stage in Main Programming (Grand Ballroom E-F). The Masquerade starts at approximately 7:30 p.m on Saturday night. You will howl with delight at our Master (of Ceremonies). Just be careful of knocking four times….

We clear the room prior to the event, so those of you with Priority and General Admission memberships will need to line up to get good seats for both this event and what follows afterwards.

Interested in entering the Masquerade? Review the rules and sign up at the Masquerade table at the convention, right next to the Virtual Queue table outside the Junior Ballroom. (Download the forms in advance, if you’d like.) Deadline for signing up is 3 p.m. Saturday of the convention. Wondering what sort of costumes you’ll see at the Masquerade? Check out our Facebook Masquerade galleries from 2011, 2012 (scroll to the bottom), and 2013.

Focus: Chronological Cavalcade and Costumers’ Retreat

October 12, 2014 in convention departments, News, Programming by JennAK

The Chronological Cavalcade is a non-competitive cosplay showcase that spans the millennia of Time Lord culture, fashion, and that of their companions, tin dogs, and even their modes of transportation. Delight in the work the goes into bringing characters to life off of the screen, out of the pages of books, and beyond the waves of sound. Showcase your talent, or cheer on our costumers the Friday of con. Sign up in advance to reserve your character/costume.

For those cosplayers who need some down time but don’t want to retreat to your hotel room, this year we offer the Costumers’ Retreat—a room where you can relax, make minor costume repairs, and generally be quiet. No photography will be allowed in the room, so you can take off those accessories without having to worry. The Retreat will also serve as the Green Room for both the Chronological Cavalcade and the Masquerade.
