The Chicago TARDIS Logo Design Contest

How It Works | Guidelines and Rules

It had a good run, but it's now time for the current Chicago TARDIS convention logo to regenerate. Oh, sure, we have talented graphic artists on call who could pull a "Watcher" and orchestrate the experience… but we thought it would be more fun if one of our fans came up with the new look!

Here's how the contest works:

  1. Come up with a new logo for Chicago TARDIS following the guidelines below, and submit it to logocontest@chicagotardis.com by 12:01 a.m. Chicago time (Central Time Zone, USA) on February 24, 2012. All submissions become the property of Chicago TARDIS.

  2. We will post all logos received after the close of submissions on the Chicago TARDIS website.

  3. Website visitors will have until 10:00 a.m. Chicago time on March 9, 2012 to vote on a "Fan Favorite."

  4. While the "Fan Favorite" voting runs, the Chicago TARDIS staff will choose an overall winner.

  5. Both the Fan Favorite winner and the Overall Winner will be announced on March 12,2012.

  6. The Fan Favorite winner will receive an autographed program book from Chicago TARDIS 2012.

  7. The Overall Winner will receive a general admission weekend membership to Chicago TARDIS 2012, and credit for the logo design on the Chicago TARDIS website footer and in the Chicago TARDIS 2012 program book. If the winner has already purchased a Chicago TARDIS 2012 membership, then (s)he will receive a general admission weekend membership to Chicago TARDIS 2013. Travel to the convention and accommodations will be at the winner's expense. The convention membership is not redeemable for cash.

  8. Chicago TARDIS staff, volunteers, and family can participate in the contest. To minimize favoritism, staff members involved with the gathering of entries will be ineligible to vote on the winning entry. If a Chicago TARDIS staff member, volunteer, or family of either becomes the Overall Winner, then the membership prize will not be awarded.

Logo Guidelines and Contest Rules:

  1. The logo must include the words "Chicago TARDIS" and the year.

  2. The tagline "The Midwest's Premier Doctor Who Convention" is optional, but we would like it to be part of the logo.

  3. Although in the past Chicago TARDIS has had both the Chicago skyline and a TARDIS as part of the logo, neither is required.(Although, our Con Chair wants a TARDIS in it....)

  4. The logo must not be an obvious copy of a current or past Doctor Who, Torchwood, or Sarah Jane Adventures logo.

  5. The logo must not include material copyrighted to other people/companies.

  6. The logo must not contain offensive or profane language or images.

  7. The logo must be easily reducible to line-art, although doesn't have to be strictly line-art. (i.e., go ahead and spiff it up in Photoshop et.al., but make the distinctive elements simple enough that the flourishes can be edited out and have what remains still be recognizable as the CT logo.)

  8. The logo must be your own, unpublished work.

  9. Hand-drawnlogos may be submitted in electronic format only. (i.e. a scan)

  10. Submit your logo as a .jpg file, no larger than 1MB to logocontest@chicagotardis.com,with the subject line "Contest Entry." Send as an attachment, not embedded into the email.

  11. The Overall Winner must submit an editable version of the file (i.e. in Illustrator, Photoshop, Corel DRAW, or Corel PHOTO-PAINT native format, or in an .eps file). Chicago TARDIS reserves the right to modify the winning logo to accommodate the printing process for merchandise and print material, or to change the year on the logo. In the case of a hand-drawn logo winning, Chicago TARDIS reserves the right to convert it to an editable electronic file via tracing or other appropriate method.

  12. Maximum of one entry per person. If you submit more than one entry, only the first one will be considered.

  13. By participating, all winners grant Chicago TARDIS permission to use their names, characters, photographs, voices and likeness in connection with promotion of this and other contests and waive any claims to royalty, right or remuneration for such use.

  14. All personal details provided to participate in these promotions will be held by Chicago TARDIS for the purpose of this promotion and entries may be used by Chicago TARDIS for future promotional and marketing purposes.

  15. Chicago TARDIS reserves the right to refuse awarding any prize to a person who is determined to have violated a rule as outlined above, gained unfair advantage in participating in the promotion, or obtained a winner status using fraudulent means.

  16. Chicago TARDIS reserves the right to change the Terms & Conditions of the competition at any time.

  17. Chicago TARDIS will be entitled to use any or all of the material submitted by any entrant(s) for any purpose, and in any manner without compensation to the entrant(s), including for reproduction, disclosure, transmission, publication, broadcast and posting.

  18. Chicago TARDIS reserves the right to discontinue this promotion at any stage.

  19. Chicago TARDIS reserves the right to discontinue use of the winning logo at any time.

  20. Chicago TARDIS reserves the right to not use the winning logo at all.

  21. No purchase is necessary to win.
