Focus: Accessibility Services

October 18, 2014 in convention departments, News by JennAK

We understand that not all our convention members are able to see or hear well, or move about (including standing) with ease. We offer help in the form of special seating areas in Main Programming and the ability to jump most of the queue for autographs and photographs. Stop by our Accessibility Services booth (just past Main Programming, before you turn the corner for Registration) to sign up for these help-meets (and to get the Super Secret Designation Thing to assure you can receive this help w/o inadvertent hassles from well-meaning staff). Hours will be the same as for Registration, and will be posted nearer the convention.

Focus: Registration

October 17, 2014 in convention departments, News by JennAK

Registration serves as the gateway to Chicago TARDIS. You claim your badge here, pick up a schedule and program book here, and get all the other information you need to have. If you’ve attended prior Chicago TARDISes (TARDI?), you’ll find the experience transformed for 2014. Instead of a booth, Registration will fill an entire room! We plan on separate lines for General Admission and All-Access/Reserved/Priority badge pick-up, along with a line dedicated to at-the-door memberships (assuming we still have any to sell at the door, of course!) and a station specifically for customer service issues. No longer will the entire registration line be held up because of an issue with one person’s membership!

We will open for badge pick-up on Thursday (Thanksgiving) night, as usual; we will also be open throughout the day on Friday-Sunday for badging needs. (Specific times will be posted nearer the convention.)

Focus: Game Shows

October 16, 2014 in News, Programming by JennAK

We love our game shows at Chicago TARDIS! This year, we will be bringing you three different ones—all open for participation from the audience!

On Friday night, we present the first installment of Kamelion’s Circus. This fun new game will get the whole audience involved. You don’t need to be a Doctor Who knowledge expert at all, all you have to do is have an active imagination! This game will involve asking the participants to do something creative on the fly – it might be to recite a made-up poem about River Song, or to invent a new monster, or to draw a new Doctor Who logo, or create the next Dalek plotline, or… well, Who knows? Audience response will be measured by applause level, and a panel of judges, also randomly selected from the audience, will give extra points on most entertaining response. Gift certificates will be awarded as prizes. Read the rest of this entry →

Focus: Gaming

October 15, 2014 in News, Programming by JennAK

We’re pleased to offer all sorts of opportunities for gaming on Friday and Saturday of the convention. (Not on Sunday– no space for it!) We will have all sorts of Doctor Who themed, family-friendly games available to play, including two games exclusive to the convention. In addition, or gaming crew will be running several modules from the Doctor Who role playing game. Stop by and relax for a bit!

Focus: Volunteers

October 15, 2014 in convention departments, News by JennAK

We would love your help minding doors, running errands, and other tasks. Ten hours of work gets you priority in the autograph and photograph lines on Sunday, admittance to a Sunday night reception, and another surprise perk. Plus, volunteering is a great way to join the convention staff! You get a feel for the work involved; we get a feel for you as a worker.

Sign up in advance by emailing our Volunteer Manager. Stop by the Volunteers table near the Dealers’ Room at the convention to get hooked up onsite.

Focus: The Chicago TARDIS Masquerade

October 15, 2014 in News, Programming by JennAK

The Chicago TARDIS Masquerade showcases the best in fan cosplay and costuming. Be prepared to be amazed at the fantastic costumes you will see on stage in Main Programming (Grand Ballroom E-F). The Masquerade starts at approximately 7:30 p.m on Saturday night. You will howl with delight at our Master (of Ceremonies). Just be careful of knocking four times….

We clear the room prior to the event, so those of you with Priority and General Admission memberships will need to line up to get good seats for both this event and what follows afterwards.

Interested in entering the Masquerade? Review the rules and sign up at the Masquerade table at the convention, right next to the Virtual Queue table outside the Junior Ballroom. (Download the forms in advance, if you’d like.) Deadline for signing up is 3 p.m. Saturday of the convention. Wondering what sort of costumes you’ll see at the Masquerade? Check out our Facebook Masquerade galleries from 2011, 2012 (scroll to the bottom), and 2013.
