We’re thrilled to announce that Billie Piper will be appearing at Chicago TARDIS this year. Doctor Who fans know her as the beloved Rose Tyler– but she’s also been the star of Ruby In the Smoke, The Shadow In the North, and Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Billie can currently be seen in Showtime’s Penny Dreadful. We can’t wait to welcome her to Chicago! Due to her busy schedule, Billie will be with us on Saturday and Sunday only.
Chicago TARDIS welcomes siblings Ellie and Joseph Darcey-Alden to this year’s convention. You know them from their portrayals of Francesca and Digby, Clara’s charges, in the 2012 Christmas Special, “The Snowmen.” You’ll also recognize Ellie from her role of young Lily Potter in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2. Both brother and sister have a growing list of credits to their names, and we’re happy to have them join our family this year.
We’re pleased to announce that Sonita Henry will be joining us this year. Sonita played Colonel Meme in “Time of the Doctor.” You will also recognize her from numerous U.S. television guest shots, including roles in NCIS, Cold Case, Chuck, and Law and Order: LA. She also played the Kelvin doctor in the 2009 Star Trek reboot.
Chicago TARDIS is delighted to have Mat Irvine join us this year! Mat designed the K-9 prop, and has spent a good chunk of his career operating it. Besides Doctor Who, this Visual Effects Designer worked on Blake’s Seven, Are You Being Served?, Bergerac, and The Singing Detective. He will be sharing his expertise with us all weekend.
We continue our musical guest habit by welcoming Dominic Glynn to this year’s Chicago TARDIS. You’re heard his work on the season 23 (Trial of a Time Lord season) theme, as well as in the episodes “Mysterious Planet,” “The Ultimate Foe,” “Dragonfire,” “The Happiness Patrol,” and “Survival.” A prolific composer, he has also provided music for a long, impressive list of film, tv, and game projects on both sides of the pond.
We welcome back our friends at Big Finish, who will be part of our party for the 15th year in a row. Joining Executive Producers Jason Haigh-Ellery and Nicholas Briggs (the latter also of Dalek, Cyberman, Judoon, etc. voice fame) will be Nicola Walker, who played Liv Chenka in the audio plays Robophobia (7th Doctor), The Traitor, Time’s Horizon and Eyes of the Master (The latter three part of the 8th Doctor Dark Eyes 2 series). You’ll recognize Nicola from her appearances in such tv shows as Last Tango in Hallifax, Prisoner Wives, MI-5 (Spooks), and Touching Evil. We can’t wait to hear what’s new and what’s upcoming with our favorite audio adventures!
Chicago TARDIS welcomes back three old friends to this year’s event. Graeme Burk (co-author of Who Is the Doctor? and Who’s 50), Robert Smith? (co-author of Who Is the Doctor? and Who’s 50, editor of Outside In), and Michael Damian Thomas (co-editor of the Hugo-nominated Queers Dig Time Lords) will all be in the house, taking over panels, guiding discussions, and generally making the convention a better place. We look forward to their return!
